Subject: Re: Chromatic Positions

Robert, I agree with you on this post, as I see your point more clearly:)

As far as the button, I LOVE it:) Hell, what's the point of the chrom if
you don't use the slide. It's leaky as hell, too damn big to ever be
really comfortable, either in the mouth or the hands--I have small hands,
and no lips, so to speak--IMO, of course. If you aren't going to use the
slide, a solo tuned harp is definitely the way to go, smaller, cheaper, and
much more airtight--IMO. BUT, you can't get those Stevie trills, that
wonderfull, funky racing up and down with the slide, and the ability to
take advantage of all of those enharmonic notes:) Not to mention that
nice, intentional, tremolo effect on the 4-5, 8-9 notes:)

As for the note for note Little Walter player. Well, to each their own,
BUT, I probably wouldn't be all that interested in hearing him, as I like
my Blues weird, improvosational, and fresh--Satan & Adam comes to mind.
And when I go retro, I like guys like Cephas & Wiggins (sp.), who play new
and old songs completely in their own style, and with a real feeling for
both the tradition and keeping it alive, and evolving:)

But, that's just IMNSHO, and to each their own:)

BTW, congrats on the Santa Clara concert:) If you come to Boston soon,
I'll have to check it out:)
