I remember listening to Sonny Terry (during a performance here in
Australia in the early 80's) talk about how he the came to play
harmonica in the Broadway production of Finian's Rainbow. He was having
trouble with the musical directors since they were insisting that he
play his pieces the exact same way every performance, and he was
insisting that because of his off-the-cuff improvisational nature that
he just wasn't capable of doing that. After then being told how much
they were willing to pay him, Sonny responded with 'Don't you worry,
you'll get it the exact same way EVERY night!'. This anecdote brought
the house down.

I'm not having a dig at Ken or questioning his reasoning, his comment
just reminded me of Sonny's story.

Cheers,

Paul
