Subject: RE; Melodica - Truly Superior: question

When Winslow, brought up the
subject of the Melodica
on Thu, 15 Jan 1998 19:17:04 -0500

i was reminded of a post i wrote to harp-l
maybe 6 months or so ago,
but never got a reply,
except from Pat Missin,
who assured me that he'd be researching my query.
i iumgaine he's still researching it.

the specific question was touched on briefly by Winslow in his post:

>No, it can't really bend notes (unless you build up back pressure
>before pressing a key)--Winslow, can you be more specific?
i had asked if possible how to bend on the melodica.
how does the back-pressure bit work?

i play my melodica trumpet style (sans hose).
i play it for all the reasons you mentioned,
plus:
i play on the melodica
what my poor harp skills won't
allow me to.

i originally got a melodica
becasue i wanted to play trumpet,
but when a trumpeter friend of mine told me that
it would take months to be able to play
a scale properly, i decided to give up the notion
for the time being.

being very familiar with the piano,
i opted for the melodica.

i recommend the melodica to painists
who want to study the way a horn line feels.
