Some of the pros I have seen use custom chest mic setups. However, I
have also seen a lot of great chord players at SPAH simply playing into
an available stand mic in the house system. This can work well if the
player has perfected the technique of moving the harp and not the head.
Al Fiore, the original Harmonicats chord player, used to make his
students practice with the back of their head pressed against a wall to
develop the discipline of not moving the head. It is particularly
important on big jumps if you want to avoid moving your mouth away from a
fixed position mic. Bud Boblink does this to perfection.
