Hi Troy,
Hard to generalize without hearing the amp, but for distortion,
crank up the gain then lower the master volume. For darkness, put your
bass at about 7 out of 10, mids at 5 out of 10 and your treble at about 2-3
out of ten. Most importantly, get a reverb unit (or use the Peavey's
existing reverb - if it has one - at about 5 out of 10.) Better still,
next birthday ask your girlfriend for a vintage Fender tweed amp! (That'll
go over big!)
Actually, any girlfriend cool enough to buy you a green bullet is a
keeper...fact is, in 1979 my then-girlfriend Laurie bought me the same mike
for my birthday....we've been together ever since, she's now my
long-suffering and ever-supportive wife! (Watch out! 8^} )

good luck,
