Subject: Cross-positioned reeds on CX-12

Can someone explain the difference between straight-positioned and
cross-positioned reeds on chromatics? The CX-12 has cross-positioned
reeds, vs. traditional straight-positioned. Is this design transparent to
the player, or does it subtly affect maintenance, repair or play?
