Sam's on the same label as I - USA Music Group. He still plays a lot, to
packed houses.

For jazz, showmanship is IMHO less of a factor. Kinda like classical in
that respect, I suppose. In other genres, it becomes a lot more
important.

Sam uses showmanship in his act. His stock "closer" is to lead the
audience around pied-piper style while playing "When The Saints Go
Marching In". They love it.
