One of the amps I reguraly gig with is a Peavey Classic 50 4x10. It has a great sound for harp and is a good amp for the money. I don't think it is as well built as a RI Fender Bassman, but I don't think the RI Bassman is as well built as a vintage silver or blackface Fender amp that with some searching could probably be had for just a little more money. I did have some reliability problems with my Peavey which turned out to be a short in the effects loop portion of the amp which was causing sudden drops in volume. I've since had that repaired and the amp works fine. The RI Bassman maybe a better amp for the reason that you can get a lot of after market parts and mods done that enhance and upgrade the sound such as installing an interleaved transformer or a point to point circuit board. With the Peavey your pretty much stuck with what you got other than switching tubes or speakers. I just heard another harp player this weekend blowing through a Peavey Classic 50 4x10 at my local neighborhood watering hole. He was using a old Shure 585V mike and really had a good Paul Butterfield kinda sound happening. The name of the guy was Babe Pino and the name of the band was Stone Crazy. Pretty interesting fact was the bass player in the band was Danny Klein of J. Geils fame. These guys had a pretty tight, hot little 4 piece blues band and any Harp-L ers in the New England area should check these guys out if they have a chance. Getting back to the amp, the price you quoted is a touch high for a used Classic 50, I have mine currently for sale for $400. If your thinking of picking it up, I'd offer that store $350-$400 for it. 'Hey, good luck, Don D.
