Subject: 10 lps that changed my life

I've been following this thread. I gotta contribute. My ten that truly
affected me, changed the way I thought about music, and life are as follows.

1.) James Brown - Live at the Apollo

First album I ever bought. Still the best show on record. P.S. I
"upgraded" to the CD version so I don't have to stop the music and flip the
album over.

2.) Junior Walker and the All Stars - Shotgun

This is a great album to take Richard Hunter's advice about listening to
saxophone and playing it on the harp. "Cleo's Mood/Back", two great peices
for harp. "Tune Up" is my next challenge. Another album for trying this
horn to harp move is Instant Soul - the Legendary King Curtis. What do you
think Richard?

3.) I don't know how many this should count for. Chess had a BluesMaster
Series. 6 double albums of Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin'
Wolf, Little Walter, Little Milton and Lowell Fulsome. Each a lesson in
style.

4.) Jimi Hendrix - Are you experienced

This along with that Yadda Yadda Davida thing certainly led to altered
perceptions of reality.

5.) Bonzo Dog Doo Da Band - Gorilla

This is perhaps the greatest musical parody album known to the free world.
(Surely I exaggerate) More than a Weird "lets write new lyrics to a popular
song" Al Yank. Bonzo Dog parodied musical forms. Well worth the listen if
you get a chance.

6.) Frank Zappa - Uncle Meat

We're talking about changing one's life here folks.

7.) Creole Zydeco Farmers - Live in Louisiana

I don't know if this really counts. But I gotta have a zydeco album. CZF,
Boozoo, the Dopsies, Chubby Carrier, Beau Jocques, Nathan and the Zydeco
Cha Chas, on and on.

8.) Johnny Winter - Johnny Winter

His first album on Columbia. Opened my eyes to Texas Blues and National
Steel Guitars. After this album he got a little too rocked out.

9.) J.Geils Band - The J. Geils Band

Another first album effort by a band that got away from what brought 'em to
the dance. I'm not knockin' cashing in, more power to 'em. But over time
the music suffers. IMHO

10.) Everything else I ever heard. I change my life like I change my
underwear.:-)
