Subject: diatonic jazz tunes

if any of the esteemed readership of this list are interested in older jazz
such as big band swing and the preceding new orleans music of kid oliver
and louis armstrong, i've found much of this music easily playable on
diatonic in the first 3 positions, often without any need for bending.

almost all of the bigger hits of the glen miller orchestra are in 1st or
2nd position, from "string of pearls" to "tuxedo junction" to "pennsylvania
6-5000". they're easy, recognizable and a lot of fun to play if you swing
'em. benny goodman is another good choice. i enjoy playing clarinet music
on harp and find a lot of similarities in their sonority. "avalon", "bugle
call rag" and "moonglow" are, again, easy, fun and they swing. ANY of the
clarinet parts in "sing, sing, sing with a swing" are also worthwhile
learning if you are just building your chops on the chromatic.

if you want something a little grittier, any early louis armstrong
compilation will be easily accessible for blues players with intermediate
technique interested in broadening their playing without going too far
afield.

just a boy in the mood,
