Hello,
this may be interesting for all readers in the European community, who like to order outside this community.
When I made an order to Harpcity begin december, Harpcity did their best to send it as soon as possible and send it around 9 december.
It was almost end januari, one and a half month after they sent it to me I received a letter from the Belgian Customs that there was a package there for me and they wanted my VAT number and other things. I faxed them and more than a week thereafter I finally got my package (almost two months after harpcity sent it to me).
I also had to pay VAT (tax on added value or so) 21%, Importtax 4,5% and Dedouaning (or something like that) tax 165BF=4.5USD.
Round 10 januari, when I thought I would never see my Harpcity-order, I ordered at Farrell's. I received that package after about two weeks (almost at the same time as the package sent on 9 december).
On both packages, on the outside it was mentioned what was inside it. I think that was the reason I had to pay. Wouldn't it be possible not to mention what's inside a package ? The online CD-shop 'pentagonmusic' gives their customers the possibility to choose what's on the package: goods or gifts. I think that's the reason. I don't know for sure. I have now an order in progress. In a week (or two), I will know for sure.
If all this taxes have to be paid, it is surely not interesting to order in America as it isn't cheaper than here.
