The Renny won.
I probably saw less of BHF and the Harp-Ler's than anyone else who attended the festival. I spent most of the time playing a wonderful Renny with G reed plates.
I did come up for air long enough to enjoy a few great BHF moments. Mike Stevens' seminar was great. So was Adam Valleau's patio concert. It was wonderful to get to see Douglas Tate playing music from memory. And it was an absolute joy to play round after round of "Lucy Farr's" with Jack Ely who could pick up the tune within the first few loops through it. And it was nice to see all of the Harp-L folks out there.
Ahhhhhhhh, but that Renny..... Even with all of BHF going on, the G Renny was just about impossible for me to put down. It was nothing less than an instrument a person could grow old with, and never finish exploring.
Bobbie and Douglas were very interested in learning about what didn't quite work for me (a1/4 inch decorative edge was just a bit too angular to be perfectly comfortable to me, and similar little stuff) and had all sort of ideas how to make the kinds of modifications that could turn the G Renny from an outstanding harmonica for me into an absolutely, unquestionably perfect one for me. And later, Douglas and I looked at his production timing and matched that up with the timing it will take for my Renny nest egg to be ready to hatch, so I know which one is going to be mine, even while it is still a lump of stainless steel somewhere.
Between the work involved in setting up a G Renny for me to test drive, and the attention to all of the detail in how they could find ways to make sure that my Renny will just right for me, Douglas and Bobbie were just super. A giant thank you to both of you. But I really wish you didn't need the loaner G Renny back. :(
