I'd say the same thing about Alan Wilson. Although he does have an amazing
vibrato technique, and although he did experiment with altered tunings, for
me its his musicality that makes him one of the masters. I think of him as
the Miles Davis of the harmonica. He never relied on flash. He was always
in complete control, knowing exactly what he wanted to say and giving the
impression that he COULD play a whole lot more than he CHOSE to play.
