I for one *would* like to see your notations. These can be posted in ASCII? That would be great!
It's a shame that a standard harp notation hasn't emerged yet. I use a modification to the Barrett style that can easily be typed and transmitted on-line. All the bent-arrows etc make it hard to communicate with other players... and that's the point, right?
I guess while I'm at it I'll try to summarize the way I do it.. this has appeared before, but I'll save y'all from the archives....
My goals are - - ASCII capable - - Minimum density so easy to scan quickly - - Minimum use of letters that can be confused with notes or flats, e.g. D and B, or b - - Minimum keystrokes - - Consistency with published material (e.g. Barrett's tab) - - Easy to understand and figure out
There are trade-offs certainly, and I respect other folks' judgements. For me, the following seems to work well.
Ex. Meaning - --- ------- 3 3 draw - unadorned means a simple draw note 3> 3 blow - the '>' means blow 3' 3 draw 1/2 step bend - each tic (') indicates a 1/2 step bend flat 3" 3 draw whole step bend 3"' 3 draw step and a half bend 8>' 8 blow bend 6># 6 overblow - the # means overblow or overdraw (i.e. overbend) 7# 7 overdraw ~2 2 draw "dip bend" - a quick continuous bend up to a note 2"~2 2 draw whole step bend continuous bend up to 2 draw 3-4 3 draw and 4 draw played at the same time 2-5 2 draw 5 draw split interval %2 2 draw tongue slapped - % means slap %2-%5 2 draw 5 draw split started with a tongue slap 2%%5 2 draw 5 draw split with a flutter tongue lift 3=4 3 draw 4 draw shake (warble)
I'm probably forgetting something, as this is off the top of my head.
