Just thought of this tonight. As I notice occasional posts looking for help with the creating, converting, uploading, etc, of sound files, I thought to notice that AOL Mac heads can go to Keyword: MacWorld, and then go to the message boards, to post questions. There are experts that cruise those boards and provide lots of help, and several times a day.
Also, the new QuickTime Player 3.0 (contained in system 8.01 and available for download from Apple, and which works with sytem 7.6, too, I believe) should convert and play many of the audio formats.
Also, there is a shareware, called Sound Converter, which is supposed to be pretty good.
