Subject: Re: All this tube talk

Hi all I'm new to the list. My name is Jerry Shay some call me Sky you
may call me anything you like (in response to all this nick name talk)
I've been playing steady about 4 years about 15 years ago I played for a
few years along with guitar and took a 15 year break.

Now that that's over with. I'll have to agree with the person (sorry
can't remember which post I seen it in) On the tubes I have an old
fender and a peavey classic both tube. I've found, that keeping the pre
amp down below 2 and the master cranked you lots of clean responsive
volume. Just up the pre a little say 3 and back off the master to reduce
feed back and it gets nice an dirty. And I leave that stupid boost
button alone (found it confused things). If you want real down and dirty
crank that pre all the way turn the master up till you get feed back
which won't be far and mic the amp through a big amp for volume.

I've come to this conclusion after trying about a grand in trick tubes
and other gizmo's although a small 6 band Eq can be helpful in some
cases. And I do have a good understanding of tubes, curves, bias,
transistors and so forth. However after all that what it boiled down to
was experimenting with the stock (for the most part) amp, and tuning my
style of play.

Just My Two Cents :-)

Thanx for a great list.

Jerry
