Subject: Big River

Hi All,

A local theater group is putting on the musical play Big River.
Opening night was last Friday. It plays through August 2nd (15
performances in all) every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
I've seen a couple other productions of Big River, but this is my
favorite so far. Though the harmonica is prominent in all of them
this one puts in the lime light. The list of Harp-Lers who have done
Big River continues to grow.

My harmonica buddy, Marv Monroe, is playing the harmonica parts. He
is the first one on stage. Later in a couple other scenes three
musicians come out on stage - harmonica/jawharp, banjo and fiddle. I
don't know if this is the producer/director's choice or what but I
enjoy seeing musicians featured as though they were part of the play.
Marv plays diatonic, bass, jaw harp - and also handles the
tambourine.

I love this play - especially in the outdoor venue here in a
beautiful old Columbus park, in the middle of historic German
Village. You take your chairs or blankets and pack a picnic. Great
fun, great weather - I've been to all 5 performances so far. My wife
thinks I'm crazy. But, hey - they've seen me so much they let me in
free now. :-) I can't wait to be invited to an afterglow.
