Subject: Bad breaking-in experience

Hello harp-l,

Months ago I bought my first Special 20 (in E). I always suspected that
mine was defective because it was twice as hard to blow as any of my LO's.
But I did like the size of it. I think I have a small mouth.

After reading about breaking-in harps while driving, I decided to give it a
try. Holding the harp out the window with my hand, I found that I needed
to drive faster than 45 mph to activate the reeds. So this weekend I
sought out the nearest highway, attached my harp to the sideview mirror
using a rack (my other useless piece of harp-related equipment), stepped on
the gas, and let God play a 1st position solo.

He must have liked it, because after the first mile the rack came loose and
flew off. I couldn't pull over because there was no shoulder. So I
watched helplessly as my one and only S20 came loose from the rack and
bounced on the road a few times before coming to a standstill.

To anyone considering trying the highway-break-in method: have some respect
for those 65 mph winds. I didn't. Now all I have left is an empty gray
box.
