I agree with Barry. But I want to point to a superb concert that is available on video in which there was no showmanship. It's the Eagles' "Hell Freezes Over" video. These guys come out on stage in jeans and t-shirts (mostly, the idea is they're not decked out in fancy duds), sit down and just blow the place away with music. The music is riveting.. the show, non-existant.
Sometimes, a concert is more for the show than for the music, and that's what the audience wants, so I'm not criticizing. Sometimes the music stands by itself, and that's good too.
