Subject: a great time was had by all

Last night I caught Kim Wilson with the T-Birds at Party on the Plaza.
Party on the Plaza is an outdoor concert put on every Thursday night
spring thru fall in downtown Houston. One of the great things about it
is, its FREE. So I got to see the big man for nothin'!
He was on stage for approx 1.5 hours, and the first hour primarily
featured the guitar player. Just as I was beginning to dispair that he
was leaving his harp in the case, he let loose. One extended solo (at
least 10 minutes) with just him and the drummer (who was pounding a
steady beat on the bass drum) was fantastic. One deceptively simple
lick after another. He makes it look so easy! I ordered the video of
the SPAH Thursday Nite Blues Blow-Off, and now I'm really looking
forward to it.
My review - first hour, mostly good guitar-oriented blues and a few old
rock-flavored T-Bird tunes; last half-hour, harp city! Overall - two
thumbs up - way up. I got a chance to shake his hand and thank him
afterwards, which kind of put the icing on the cake. A truly enjoyable
evening.
