Subject: Re: Apologies for confusion.....

To all,

Richard Hunter didn't really owe anyone an apology for the following
that appeared in digest #155:

>>>
The call recently went out on Harp-L for suggestions for performers for
SPAH 99. I suggest that next year's show include a healthy complement
of country-style harmonica players, e.g. Kirk "Jelly Roll" Johnson,
Charlie McCoy, Don Brooks, Mike Stevens, Jerl Welch, Burl Welch, etc.
Country music is an extremely popular idiom, and it's one of the few
popular music styles where harmonica players are frequently and
prominently employed. I'm sure many SPAH attendees would enjoy a
closeup look at some of these performers, many of whom have been and
will be influential. Thanks.
>>>

This was actually in response to a post I had made, quite innocently,
without intending to infer that it was an official request from SPAH. I
apologize for my part in the confusion. Adam "Harpoon Man" Valleau had
asked (in digest #136) about the possibility of getting Tommy Morgan to
appear at a future SPAH convention, following Rob Paparozzi's salute to
Tommy which included a site that listed many of Tommy's accomplishments
(also in digest #136).

It was in digest #148 that I made my faux pas - as follows:

>>>
Thanks to Rob for posting the info on Tommy Morgan's work, at:

http://allmusic.com/cg/x.exe?p=amg&sql=B107404

and Harpoon Man's suggestion that SPAH invite Tommy to a convention
sometime. Actually, Tommy would come (again - he was guest
artist/performer/workshop host in 1986 in Detroit), if invited, I am
sure. While he is always very busy, he does hold a warm spot in his
heart for SPAH, harmonica players and lovers, and does enjoy the social
aspect of the conventions. He also was at some of the SPAH-West
Conventions in Anaheim, CA, several years ago.

I would agree that it's time we featured Tommy once more. Send your
suggestions to Bob Williams and the SPAH BOD at: harpsp~ol.com
>>>

That last statement was the zinger that caused it all. Again, I did not
mean to infer that SPAH was officially taking suggestions, and I
apologize to all concerned. SPAH does in fact have a long list of
artists with whom they maintain contact, and are always working on
coordinating schedules and other arrangements, sometimes several years
in advance.

So - I will accept the blame for any and all confusion in this matter.

Danny
