Subject: CBH 2016

This instrument, is mechanically, by far the best Hohner ever made. I
have a few of my own which I do not play because I do not like the tone,
or the feel of the mouthpiece in my mouth, the sharp square edges etc.
It is an ugly black thing but loved by many and virtually impossible to
screw up. A used one goes for up to $550. A number of them have passed
through my shop and have been sold to collectors that only play the
CBH2016. I have a friend in FL, that has perhaps a dozen and I have
made new mouthpieces for his from brass and then gold plated them. Also
have made some covers from brass without the seperations and a higher
profile which changes the tone some what. The slide is so air tight
that it causes a sharp click when it is activated and air is flowing
through. This is most annoying, however, Robert Bonfiglio uses CBH2016
exclusively and considers them the best for volume and projecting. I
have to agree, the instrument is very powerful. Lastly, the reed plates
are very different from the other Hohner 280 style instruments. The
reeds are longer and thicker, perhaps even a different alloy was used.
The reed plates are available from Hohner.
