Here's a question about what to call improvised songs...
When do you have something original that needs a new name?
I just did a "composed improvisation" (see the recent archives) over a basic "Stormy Monday" type chord progression which I posted about to the list. It was correctly pointed out to me that it doesn't really sound like "Stormy Monday", and of course that wasn't the point.
At some point a song is changed enough that it's title probably needs to be different--perhaps this is one.. I'd be interested in everyone's opinion.
Anyway, I've changed the name to "Stormy Sea II".
If you'd like to listen to it and comment (on the name, or anything else) it's on the Harp-L E-Music page at:
http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/6945/
in both Real Audio and MP3 format, for streaming or download. If you've got an MP3 player like Audioactive or the MS Windows "Media Player", the audio quality of MP3 is better than Real Audio.
You can access the audio files directly at:
Real Audio format: http://members.tripod.com/~myquill/StormySeaIIWHarp.ra MP3 Audio format: http://members.tripod.com/~myquill/StormySeaIIWHarp.mp3
(The streaming files are at the same locations with .ram and .m3u extensions.)
Stormy Sea II is 4:16 in length, which takes only 753K bytes compressed to good quality MP3 format! That's not too much bigger than the Real Audio compression. Anyway, there's two harps lines through-out, so that's about 8 and a half minutes of harp.
I think you'll like it, and if you don't I'd sure be interested in knowing why. Pour yourself a cup or glass of your favorite beverage, and just sip and listen... %^]
