Subject: amps and speakers

I have a 50 Watt Koch (tube) amp. It's a combo with one 12" speaker.
Instead of this speaker I can connect the amp with a box containing
three 10" speakers plus a tweeter. I also can connect both the 12" and
the box with the amp.
When I only connect the 4-speakerbox I can get a beautifull distorted
sound with my CAD HM50 bullit mic. When I connect only the 12" of the
combo, there is very little distortion (with the same settings) and I
can use less volume, because of feedback. The same is true when I conect
the 12" and the speakerbox. The 12" sets the limit.
I didn't know that a speaker could have influence on the distortion or
the feedback. I always thought it was the amp, the volume or the mic or
a combination of these factors. Can somebody shine some light on this?
