Subject: Modded RI Bassman vs Victoria

Played through my guitarist's 410 Victoria for a couple of sets (that and the
"State of the Blues Harp" George Buford CD was his birthday present to me).

My God. What an amp. I haven't enjoyed a nice amp since the '59 Bassman I had
back in '81. The sound is so beautiful that everything is just right there.
No working to find the sound, if you know what I mean. Well, I'm not in a
place to buy a $1700 Vic, but I can get a brand new Hoffman board for my RI
Bassman for $100 and my tech will put it in for $200. So, I a few questions
for those of you who've played through these various creations.

How would a Vic compare with the Hoffmaned Bassman? How would it compare if I
swapped in some Mojo Tones? The Vics are now coming with the new RI Jensens.
What difference would that make?

And one related question. There are a few rectifier tubes that work with the
Bassman and which change the sound considerably. Does anyone know if you can
similarly swap out different rec tubes in the Vic.

Thanks for any help.

It did feel good to watch my guitar squirm without the Victoria. Now he knows
what I put up with, and how spoiled he has been.
