Tim - I just picked up a Hering Black Blues and find the cover plates to
be fine. I usually have a dry mouth problem but am not noticing it on
the Hering BB. It does not appear to be made of plastic but of enameled
metal - of some sort.

The CX 12 is another harmonica I can play without the dry lip syndrome
but it (CX 12) IS plastic and a bit wider than other plates.

Go for the Hering, it sounds great and is tight - some may disagree, of
course.
