Subject: Re: Amp Problem

The amp is a 1961 Airline, and it has a problem. I am hoping someone will
have a suggestion for me. It happens almost everytime I use the amp, but it
is not constant or consistant. Sometimes, upon the initial sounding of a
note I hear a crackling sound (like static), then normal output. It seems
to be related to the loudness of the played note, because if I start very
softly and raise the level gradually, I reach a point that the "static"
appears, and then goes away. It also seems to be related to the tubes (I
think the power tubes specifically) and the tube sockets, because when I
jiggle or gently move the tubes in & out of the socket the problem
dissapears, but this remedy is not permanent, and problem returns after
varying lengths of time. I took it to the local music store, and was told
it was dirty tube sockets. Is this possible? Can they be cleaned somehow?
Replaced? Please help. Most of the time the amp sounds great. Thank-you in
advance.
