Well, there was a thread about using earplugs to "hear" whether or not harps vibrate. Not to be confused with a thread about using ear-buds, those miniature Sony speaker/earplugs as a personal in-ear monitor.
Maybe there was also a thread about using earplugs to defend your hearing when playing in the midst of potentially damaging volume as well. There are some earplugs that claim to block damaging sound while allowing you to hear all that important musical information that resides between 120 and 140 decibels.
Anyhow, I can try to help with the first two items. You're on your own with the third. The folks that wave the flashlights at 747's would know a bit more...
