Beethoven's comment on Bach is famous: "Brook? (Bach's name meant
brook)-he should have been named the ocean."
Brahms called Bach's "Well Tempered Clavier" "our daily bread."
Mozart first encountered Bach's music in Leipzeg, in Bach's old church.
Someone brought hin a Bach motet. Mozart, not knowing the composer, at
first glanced at it for 10 seconds, and then became so interested that
he pushed the chairs aside and spread out the music on the floor and
read it while kneeling.
