I have a chance to buy a small Gibson combo amp, circa late 50's early 60's. It has one 8" Jensen Blue Label (Special Design). It sounds great, but there is a small rectangular tear (1/2" wide X 3/8" long) shaped like a squared off letter "U" that extends from the outer rim of the speaker support to the edge of the cone. Question(s): How critical is this with regular use and how much life might be left in the speaker before it needs re-coning? And in general, how do the paper elements of these speakers hold up over time? Can they last indefinitely? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I am new to the list and if this topic has been covered before, I apologize. Juke
