We should each take a solemn oath to never again buy a harp with a wooden comb! With Hohner and Hering both building harps with plastic combs, there is now no reason to buy wooden combs. Wooden combs are for harp collectors, not performers.

A reed that is just stiffer, would have a higher pitch. If it were stiffer and heavier at the tip, or stiffer and longer, or some combination, it could have the same pitch. A reed of the same shape and a different material such as steel would have a different pitch. Two reeds of different materials can be designed to have the exact same pitch and responsiveness. I have one home-made stainless steel reed in my Farrell 270 that no one can find by its sound or responsiveness.
It is easy to incorrectly attribute the effects of leaks or absence thereof, reed clearance in the slot, reed set, and harp geometry to reed materials and design.
