Technical improvements and new instruments are fine, but why did it take the the harmonica world 150 years to figure out overblowing? How many beginners could overblow if you tried to teach them? Can any teachers comment on how easy it is to impart this technique? I don't do OB yet, but I'm not anti-OB either. If it's too hard for the average player it should not be listed as a core technique. This is the critical question."
It's "all" (mostly) in the harp setup.. Before I could overblow, I could still overblow on a discrete comb. Something like that or an "overblow" harp is a good learning tool where you can strengthen your techniques and take it back to a normal diatonic.
I think it's likely that, by volume, the average diatonic player only messes with first position on "campfire" type songs, and can't bend.
Could it be that "core techniques" are those that are most useful to producing music, and not just those that are easiest to learn?
