From: Danny Wilson Date: Mon, 20 Dec 1999 11:43:26 -0800 Subject: Bjarne's Post (was Swan Harps)
My response to Bjarne included the portion of his post on Harp-L that I found repulsive, with regard to the recent status of Hering and its position of abandonment of the North American market. His statements were in total, were not taken out of context, and it is only to those that I responded.
That is all that is necessary to repeat here, as the complete files to which he referred are included in the archives, for those interested in the history. It was obvious that some members of Harp-L did not read, or digest, my original posts on the subject, due to some of the conclusions drawn. Bjarne has apologized to me personally, and publicly, and I accepted his apology, as I believe he is sincere.
It is my contention and belief that personal opinions are always acceptable, desireable, welcome, and important - BUT it is always necessary that they be identified as opinion, rather than fact based on conjecture.
Statements offered as fact must be proveable without question, otherwise such statements should not be made. A sure way to lose credibility is to make uneducated allegations and pass them off as fact.
The Harp-L archives are a tremendous and valuable resource, but along with all the great information available is also the volumes of misrepresentation that become a part of the permanent record. These cannot be retracted. So as Bjarne stated, be sure you want to send your post before you hit the "send button"!
