Subject: RE: amps with 15 inch speakers

Hi guys,
My own experience with 15" speaker amps includes a couple of tweed pros
(a 55 and a 58, both sounded great with a Jensen P15N speaker, I
believe, and why I sold them is a mystery), a brown 63 Pro with a
ceramic 15 that didn't really sound as good at least to me, and most
recently a 1951 Bassman (the single 15 version, also had a P15N The 51
Bassman was a really rich sounding amp, unfortunately not enough power
without mic'ing. I took it to a blues jam with Bill Tarsha and the
Rocket 88s, and as sometimes happens the amp is now his ( I did wind up
with his 61 white tolex Twin in trade). One of the other guys in town
uses 15" Delta Blues Peavey amp but I've never tried that one. Some of
the 15" speaker amps around today , besides bass amps, were designed for
steel guitar players (I'm thinking of the Peavey Nashville amps but
there are others), and generally have pretty massive speakers ; the JBL
is an example of a speaker made to be played loud without breakup and
not a particularly useful harp speaker for blues use, but maybe there is
someone out there that has had good results.
