From: Ray Beltran
Subject: Amplifid Harmonica Sound File
I posted an MPEG sound file on our web site some of you might want to hear.
Here's the description:
"Here's an MP3 outtake of a recently recorded practice. I used my portable
MiniDisc recorder with a couple of Audio Technica mics. The piece is an
original written by our guitarist, Laurence, entitled "Work, Work, Work©". I
isolated the harp solo for some of my harmonica playing buddies who play
amplified Chicago-style blues. The recording conditions leave a lot to be
desired; we were testing some monitors for possible future use, and I was
fooled into thinking that I had a proper amp volume, when, in fact, I could
have been a teeny bit louder. I was catching some bleed from a monitor
placed next to our rhythm guitarist-that's what tricked me into turning down
some. Any echo you hear is from the natural room acoustics. What WAS
captured was the sensitive and extremely responsive (to technique) harmonica
amp I own, the Sonny Jr. 2. Also evident is it's particularly nice voicing.
I like it, anyway. Tube compliment was the 5U4GB rec, 5751 preamp and 12AU7
inverter preamp, NOS 5881's. Other equipment was an old beat-up JT-30 with a
vintage Shure R5 element, mic work courtesy of Dennis Gruenling, custom
Marine Bands built up by yours truly. Enjoy."
It's a little over a megabyte in size. Pull it down if you're interested.
