Hey Jerry and all. I had the pleasure backin '95 of working with an absolutely brilliant Brazilian guitar-player named Oswaldo Barbosa. He specialized in origional Brazilian jazz compositions from the turn of the century. Through oswaldo, I definately drummed-into my heart & heart the notion that the finest jazz ever made in Brazil was from the time-span you're curious about. I've really got to dig-through my filed-boxes to get any names of composers and musicans, mostly our friendship was a time of listening to his recordings of the origional playings, and just setting down on a bench with guitar and my harmonicas listening to him play and learning and playing-along with him. I'm fairly certain that any webSEARCH for Brazilian jazz from this period with bear little fruit; one of Oswaldo's greatest laments was that almost no one in Brazil was either listening-to or playing this brilliant jazz. He certainly found a good new home for it when he moved to Montreal with his wife and children just before we met, instruments in hand, one sunfull summer in the Bloomfeld Parc. Richard -
