Hi All,
I am abusing my authority as list owner to try to coerce each and every one of you to join SPAH (with my unstoppable psychic powers). Beware, for I may just reach right out of the computer screen and grab you by your wallet ;-). SPAH is, as Doug Tate mentioned, Harp-L's Great Benefactor. There is nothing better you can do to support Harp-L than joining SPAH. In addition, if you are not concerned about what you can do for SPAH . . . consider what SPAH can do for you!
SPAH publsihes monthly the Harmonica Happenings magazine, edited By George Davis (a distinguished member of Harp-L as well) and has a yearly SPAH Convention that is always tremendous. SPAH also maintains a website, run by Harp-L webmaster Danny Wilson (knwon for his Bass Harmonica and his weekly International Gig List)with industry information of all sorts. To go there, just go to www.harmonica.org and scroll down to SPAH on the left hand side. All of these little goodies plus MORE are provided by SPAH to their members for just $20.00 a year - plus the $5 initiation fee (they voted down my idea of a mandatory two-month "harmonica boot camp" modeled on the Navy Seals). How can you beat that?
Aside from that, I would like to remind everyone that SPAH is a club in and of its own and that issues regarding SPAH are for "members only". This does not mean that harmless banter, fun and "neat ideas" about SPAH aren't encouraged on Harp-L, but we should leave member issues to the "members". I haven't noticed anything specific recently, but it is good to remember that SPAH is a members' group, so that we don't end up trying to "vote" on issues through Harp-L. We need to respect SPAH in this way even though many Harp-L members are also members of SPAH. So, please use good judgment in that sense and, if you aren't sure, don't hesitate to ask me.
With that, I think I should also put a good plug in for the other great clubs and conventions held around the world. Join your local club if there is one and GO to a convention some time! Calendars of harmonica events can be found through www.harmonica.org. Cehck them out. Enjoy,
