Subject: Acoustic amplification?

Hello harp-l,

The recent thread on amplification and acoustic v. electric made me
wonder about amplifying acoustic tone, which I believe is an ongoing
quest in the guitar world.

Is there any way to significantly amplify a harmonica without
electricity? I think I've seen some classical guitarists use what
appear to be large wooden boxes to project to an audience, though
maybe these require a large solid vibrating medium like the guitar
top. Can something similar be adapted for harmonica? How about some
sort of cone shaped device?

I sometimes play with some string players, and my harmonica sounds
too weak when unamplified, and too non-acoustic when amplified, if
that makes any sense. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks,
- -Patrick
