Subject: 12 Positions (was Re: Iron Mike Curtis)

Chris Michalek wrote on harp-l:

"There is only one person in this world that can actually play the
diatonic in
12 keys and that's Howard Levy. Mike Curtis, Carlos del Junco, Sandy
Weltman,
Larry Eisenberg et al can't."

Hey Chris! I heard, live and in person, Sandy Weltman play a tune in
all 12 positions on an unvalved diatonic. Admittedly not a very
complicated melody, but he did it. I'm sure Sandy would be the first to
say that Howard is the most, and probably only, facile 12-positioner.
But Sandy can do it, and the difference with Howard is a matter of
degrees. I guess if you'ld have put "fluently", "flawlessly", or some
other adverb in your statement before "play", I'd go aloing with it.

See you at SPAH,
