"The Benevolent Mr Figglesby" cast pearls....

Hello friends, enimies, brothers and other semi relatives,

I spoke with Papa John Kolstad lastnight who said his Beans Taste
Fine album has just been re-released. The Beans album was recorded in
the late 60's and 70's with Wildman Mike Turk on Harmonica. As you
all know, Mike Turk is one of the best harmonica players in the world
and although he mainly plays jazz chromatic this disc is fuly of
heavy blues diatonic. This CD easily contains some of the best
diatonic and chromatic harmonica playing I have ever heard.

This is also a very important and inflential album for me. I first
listened to this record in 1988 where I heard my first overblow. I
remember thinking how does he get that note? I knew Charlie McCoy
was into reed filling so I tuned up a bunch of notes and eventually
found the correct one but then I realized that the sound of the note
was different. One day I had a B Golden Melody and when I blew into
hole six all that came out was the overblow. Viola!! That was the
sound I had been seeking for months. This is the album that made me
want to continue playing the harmonica. When I heard this alum I
though "Man o man, I want to play like that." And today, 13 years
later I STILL want to be able to play like that. I have been
fortunate enough to have come full circle with the music. Papa John
is a Minneapolis resident and now I get to play Mike Turk's role
every saturday night. I remember learning every lick on this album
and to be able to play it is something of a dream.

I have no financial stake in this record. Papa John is a good
friend. I love the music and Mike Turk is totally awesome on this
disc. I know there are a few folks on the list that have heard it and
maybe they will say something more.

If you are interested in this disc it is available on amazon.com,
borders.com barnes and noble.com most music stores and you can get it
directly from Mill city Music at millcitymusic.com or call
800-426-5783 or 612-722-6649

This is one of the best harmonica albums of all time. Every
harmonica player should have it in their collection.

Well , dunno how to say this....
Let's seee....The music is wild , why , hair-raising!!
Just got mine today. Pre-ordered it as soon as I caught a glimpse
of Mr. Figglesby's word and I just couldn't wait
(got a hold of myself for 18 days though , counting down breaking comb
teeth).
Wily , I wanna hop in a 4WD , slip the CD in and head for the mountains.

Thanks for that one!

p.s. when opened , the CD rests in a slick , glossy ,
black lacquer-like jewel case. Nice.

Cheers ,

Nicholas Cocris
