Subject: a couple of experiences..

I had a couple of experiences this past week that I thought I would share
with the list.
This afternoon, I was sitting in a local park with some people I know,
playing bluegrass and old country music. A guy came in on his bicycle and
watched a bit, then asked if we minded if it joined us on panflute. No
problem. But as I visited with him a little, he saw my harps and mentioned
that he played a little. Turned out that he had all five issues of Winslow's
HIP, knew about overblows, could do them a little, but was more interested
in
chromatic. Since I only know of two other harp players in this town, this
came as a surprise. He said he found out about HIP after buying "Harps and
Heavy Breathers" at the local Barnes and Noble store....
Also, last Tuesday I went to a little club where a guy I knew was playing
solo blues, guitar and vocal. He's a veteran, been around for years and is
very much a traditionalist. Anyway, to my surprise, he invited me to sit in,
I ended up playing most of a set with him, total improvisation on basic
songs, but ones I had never played. Point is, he complimented me afterward.
THis from a guy who pretty much blew me off just a few years ago. I guess
practice does help. Anyway, it sure made me feel good.
