Unfortunately, I was unable to attend any of the concerts last weekend (more
mundane affairs required my attention). I did, however, hear Mr. Bonfiglio's
interview on MPR and was blown away! I'm no expert but he sounded damn good
on the Marine Band as well as the Chromo. He seemed like a very pleasant,
down-to-earth person and I really *felt* that he enjoyed playing and
explaining the instrument to lay people. Very impressive interview.

AS far as the "high society folks" behavior is concerned: perhaps now that
our fair Governor is a very wealthy man, Twin Cities high society is using
him as a standard for public behavior. Were any of these folks wearing a
pink boa?

"I saw the Planet of the Apes and I didn't have to go to the theater.
Instead, I chose to visit Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis, MN.

Last weekend I was privileged to be Robert Bonfiglio's guest at his
performance of the Villa-Lobos Harmonica Concerto with the Minnesota
Orchestra. Robert was tremendous and his prowess on the harmonica
created a feeling of envy that I have not felt since I first heard
Howard Levy. I loved watching the music effortlessly flow through him
as he played. His cavernous tone, smooth runs and technical
proficiency parallel his intensity and attack of each note.

What a life Robert has, playing in front of thousands of cheering
people and later have high society folks fight to buy his music. I
was at a classical music concert where supposed sophisticated people
go to get their "culture" and Robert's performance quickly turned
them into a frenzied group of apes. Our high society brothers and
sisters were acting as if they were starving and Robert was the only
piece of food within months. After his performance they were a
"hootin and hollerin" and "Clappin and Stompin". I felt like I was in
either a barn or the jungle. For this sophisticate, I felt at home
for the others Robert introduced them to a whole new world.

Today, four days later, I find that I still want to pick up a
chromatic and learn me some of that stuff (if only to have an
assistant follow me around to wipe sweat from my brow). Great job
Robert!
