Subject: re:bends

Paul Butterfield in his instructional CD recommends playing very softly
and says bends do not require effort, you just have to know how to do it.
James Cotton, on the other hand, inhales so hard he spits out the reeds.

If you learn how to bend softly, you have the option of trying both
techniques. I would advise moderating the airflow so that spitting out
the reeds does not become necessary.

Keep your harp with you at all times, play with it, fool around, noodle
around. This is both fun and a learning experience.I find saying oooh
while inhaling helps, but I don't know how to bend with a tongue block.
Once you learn how to bend, you can fool around with giving your bends
different tones.

Have fun!
