Here's a response from Rob Coleman, via the perfect pitch list, where
I've been crossposting some of these. He has developed perfect pitch
as a result of the Burge course, and is quite familiar with the
materials.

Nine!

I am going to agree that 9 CD's is uncalled for. Well, actually it's
8
- - the 9th is an intro to the RP course and it comes free with the
course. Anyway, the CD's are way below the average CD length and he
could probably get the whole course on 5 CDs or so and drop the price
of the course.

Personally, though, I really REALLY don't think the cost of the
course is all that unreasonable. I mean people spend so much freakin'
money on pointless crap that they don't need. Burge's course, if done
consistently and with a certain skill can be far more rewarding for a
musician than any college eartraining course (which costs WAY more I
might add). PP, when it becomes permanent, infuses one's entire way of
listening and that in turn affects every aspect of their musical
world.

I don't quite get Roger's point here. The course is structured in the
form of masterclasses - there are 24 total. The first 2 are an
introduction to the course talking about the nature of PP and the
benefits of having it. All the rest give excercises except one I
think, which is devoted to talking about the hindrance of drug use on
eartraining.

The entire course is loaded with nicely structured excercises and
excellent insights. A lot of people complain that Burge talks too
much. I guess I just like listening to the insights that people have
to give or something because I enjoy listening to his ideas and
stories on the subject. I honestly feel that absolutely none of what
he talks about is superfluous. I have benefited from everything he's
said on the course at one time or another.

I think Roger needs to improve his listening and concentration
skills. Burge says everything he needs to say to get the point
across. Learning PP is very different from learning RP. RP is a very
active kind of skill and learning it takes intelligence and thought.
PP is kind of the opposite. It takes a quiet mind and a relaxed ear.

His RP course kicks ass. My eartraining classes in college were shit
compared to his course. It was because of his course that I was able
to test out of 2 eartraining classes and even the 3 that I had to take
after that were a breeze - I consistently got over 100% on every test
and basically aced everything else.

it.

This is very important actually, and I had hoped one day to somehow
influence somebody to do another study on the effectiveness of Burge's
course (2 have already been done, both of which were quite positive in
Burge's favor) so I could really see first hand how ti works for
others. I know it's been great for me, but I'd really like to see with
my own eyes the progress of others.

I really want to see a long term study, maybe a year or so on it. This
would probably give plenty of time to produce substantial results. The
other studies were very short, only a few months or so.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on their thoughts.
