Johnny-

To clarify this, let me say I was not there and did not see the things that
the original poster commented on. However, I have a world of respect for
Dave Barrett, who has worked very hard to advance the harmonica, and I
became incensed at the idea of Oscher acting in a way
that appeared from the description to be disrepectful of his host/employer.
Kind of like biting the hand that feeds you. You don't go teaching at a
class like that and openly disparage the methods of the guy who brought you
there and paid you. It's unprofessional. So I got
annoyed and spoke out. I would feel bad if I had been unfair tro PO, though.
Remember, I never knocked POs playing or muscianship. I saw him play once
and he was very good. But the fact that he played with Muddy for a couple
years does not place his personal behavoir above reproach. Should I be
immune from criticism because I have books out? You
certainly don't think so. Newspaper columnists often criticize our nation's
leaders very publicly in print, and that's their right and duty. Same here.
The ranks of blues players have known drunks, murderers, swindlers,
bigamists, theives and chronic liars. Are we supposed to
ignore their personal failings just beause they were good musicians? I don't
think so.
But enough of this; there's better things to talk about.
