I used to play with an acoustic guitarist who used a Tube MP instead of the solid state preamp which was supplied with his Sunrise pick-up. It really warmed up the tone but still yielded a clean sound. As a result I started running my SM57 to another Tube MP and then to the PA. It fattened up the tone but still left it clean. I think it's a great direct box for going to the PA when you want a clean tone. There are probably much better options out there if you're trying to create the distorted "Chicago" sound. Jay
