Dear Paul and Annie I echo your feelings 100 + o/o. At the end of 1961, I was living in Baton Rouge. across the river (by ferry, then) was a little town called Port Allen. There were several "Juke Joints" and "Road Houses" there. This was in contrast to Baton. Probably due to being a different Parrish with an "Easier" going sherrif. You see...the town was mostly black folks. Anyway, I'm getting out of subject, so back to point. The was a place called Percy Bossier's (pronounced Bouchey). and there is where I met several performers such as Rice Miller, Lazy Lester, Lightning Slim, Jimmy Reed (who I still love-what a guy), and a big big girl named Thornton. Don't remember her first name. I always felt that there was a "different sound" coming out of that area Could have been because people seem to mix Cajun with Creole. Cajuns are basically white with French/Celtic sounds while Creoles are basically Black & White with French/Afro sounds (but especially beats). Paul Simon tries to capture this beat today but I don't think anyone will ever capture the sounds . At least not the way I remember em. I was so blessed to have been there. smokey-joe (with) the Cafe s"
