saw carey bell last night at the diamond state blues society's fall show. he played two sets. solid playing. i particularly enjoyed the way he employed effects into his playing. i know someone mentioned a couple of weeks ago that they didn't care for it, but i found it a great way to open up things a bit (although he still played more or less typical blues lines), and really liked the synth sounding thing. cool to see someone who has played for so long advancing the ideas of what is the right way to sound. probably the only real down moment of the evening (for me) came when bell refused to sign my harp, apparently because i wouldn't repurchase cds that i already had at home. oh well. in any case, as i said, a night of solid blues. worth checking out...
