Subject: a more responsive chrom?

I am brand new to harp-l, have been reading for a few
days. I have been playing jazz/blues and studying jazz
on the chrom with a teacher for the last year. My
question is about chrom repair. I have a
seven-year-old Super 64 on which I have worn through
several valves. While I am replacing valves, I would
like to adjust the reeds or reed slots in order to
make the harp more responsive. I also have a
Meisterklasse chromatic which I like very much except
for a couple of "sticky" notes...notably the low D and
B notes (1 Draw and one hole below 1-draw)
I have heard people talk of "reed-gapping" and reed
slot adjustments, but I don't know what the goal of
these adjustments is, exactly (tolerances,
measurements, etc.), or how to do them. Is there
anywhere I can go to find out how to fine-tune these
parts of the harp to make it play as smoothly as
possible? I have tried lightly flexing the stubborn
reeds with a small screwdriver and this helps a
little, but isn't permanent.

Also, my slide assemblies seem to be noisy, especially
when miked. Can I do anything to alleviate that?

I have already taken one piece of advice from this
list and tried chapsticking my mouthpiece, which
worked quite nicely! Any advice re: the above topics
would be greatly apreciated!
