Noncontrovserially speaking, isn't it sort of a misnomer to call b3 a blue
note? My understanding is the 'blue 3rd" hovers in between the major and
minor third. I think the "5th" is also
sometimes less than a half step below 5, although I've read it's fairly
close to the Western b5 (the blue notes come from West African singing). All
this figures into how much you bend the
notes on the harp. In my transcriptions, I have had to use the indication
"1/4" over a note bend (both 3 & 5) many times to indicate that the bend was
not fully a half step. What's your
take on this?
